writing this paper - arguing that tobacco companies aren't responsible for consumer illness, the consumers themselves are - makes me feel like Miles Edgeworth.

WHAT
(i-is this even real, wikipedia? I don't think so, but oh how I wish it were.)
Phoenix is an upcoming Australian law-related TV series, adapted from Japanese video game developers Capcom's popular game series, Phoenix Wright.
The first series of the show follows three main characters, one of which made no appearance in the games whatsoever, and a variety of recurring, supporting, guest and minor roles throughout. The three main characters are:
The titular character, Phoenix Wright. A rookie defence lawyer and the understudy to successful defence lawyer Mia Fey, Phoenix is a very nervous character, despite his abilities in the courtroom. He is 24 years old, and fresh out of law school. He investigates his cases not unlike a detective would, to build a confident case in court. He is known to blurt out ridiculously sounding explanations for questions posed to him in court, and then justify them surprisingly well. He is often pressured by prosecutors to hurry up proceedings, for his tendencies to slow things down when he is stuck.
Mia Fey, Phoenix's mentor, and a very successful defence lawyer to boot. She is five years older than Phoenix is, but that has not stopped the show's producers and writers toying with the idea of a romance between them. Her character is expanded dramatically from the person in the games; she is portrayed as neurotic, clean, resourceful and a perfectionist in the series. She files all of her cases in alphabetical order in her shelves carefully, and often scolds Phoenix for touching them. Like all the women in her family, Mia is gifted with spirit mediumship, though rarely uses her talents, believing they distract her from her true passion: defence law.
Stoney Lee joins the cast after six episodes of the first season, as Phoenix's partner. For his first few cases, Mia joins him in the courtroom, but as he progresses, she stops this, so Phoenix hires Stoney as his support, and extra brains. Stoney is a 26 year old teacher who has been suspended from her job on suspicion of stealing money from the school, under the guise of "excursion and camp payments". She mistakenly took her job as Phoenix's partner as temporary, as she believes she will return to teaching in a few months, but Phoenix hired her as a permanent partner. They often trade barbs, and sometimes can be a very dysfunctional team, but Stoney's intelligence oftentimes helps Phoenix in getting his verdict.
The show's supporting cast consists of four recurring characters:
Detective Ryan Potter is based upon the character of Dick Gumshoe in the games. His personality is one of extremes; he can be either very protective of information, or willing to blurt it out to anyone who asks nicely. Despite the fact he often appears as a prosecutor's witness, he has a good relationship with Phoenix, and often gives him autopsy reports and inside information, sometimes inadvertently.
Miles Edgeworth is a ruthless prosecutor, who meets Phoenix in the courtroom various times throughout the season. He has a reputation for forged evidence and edited testimonies, but nothing has ever been proved. He dislikes Phoenix and Mia, though acknowledges the latter's skills as a defence lawyer. It is revealed in the ninth episode of the season that Phoenix and Edgeworth spent a year in the same class in primary school, before Edgeworth was transferred.
Larry Butz is Phoenix's best friend. His character is expanded from the games, and appears in the majority of episodes, albeit in mostly small roles. He appears as the defendant in the pilot and a witness, though a clueless one, in episode fourteen. He has a way with nearly anyone he meets, and has a habit of dating beautiful models. When Phoenix requires information from Detective Potter, he sometimes utilises Larry to charm Potter into giving Phoenix the information.
Judge Ronald Hill appears as the judge in most episodes. The explanation of his frequent appearance in nearly all of Phoenix's trials is that he is one of only three remaining judges in the court. It has also been implied that he has some distant relation to Stoney, but she denies it heavily. He is very pliable, and sometimes witnesses in strife use this to their advantage. He is often pressured by prosecutors, namely Edgeworth, to pass verdicts quickly and to believe their side of the story instead of Phoenix's. The judge has also admitted to disliking Mia, though she has no knowledge of it.
Phoenix follows the titular character as he progresses through the world of defence law. Nearly all episodes consist mainly of Phoenix defending a client, though all episodes include some small insight into his personal life. Sometimes cases are split into two episodes to allow for complications. Phoenix receives seventeen cases in season one, fifteen of which he successfully defends his client.
oh. my. god.
During the show, Kurt will sing "Defying Gravity" from Wicked.
WHEN IS THIS HAPPENINGap us history is going to kill me on the inside. I really need to pass that test tomorrow.
in other news, every class besides that is starting off pretty well.
ap comp is really interesting (as much as I complained about that essay we have to do - that's due tomorrow - it's actually really fun to write once I got what I had in my notebook down in Word) and mr. cunningham makes it better by being pretty much the best english teacher I've ever had up to this year. which is amazing.
pre-calc is...exactly as it sounds. pre-calculus. it's not fun, but mrs. small's actually kinda cool and does a good job at explaining what we're going over/learning, so it's alright.
sat review is way too easy. we're doing basic math/algebra and learning vocab words (half of which I've already heard and used). I wonder if the actual test is really this alright, or if they're just laying it on easy. or if it'll get harder as the semester goes on. (I doubt it.)
a capella choir is just ♥♥♥ (times infinity). you have no idea how much I love being in this choir. no idea. and shit are our songs so good. the new teacher - aughh why can't I remember his name; I know it started with a 'c' - is actually really awesome and one hell of a singer. he carries singing into his sentences after he's teaching us some notes or telling us what to do, and it's so funny. he's awkward, but nice.
ap us. just...see above. I like learning in the class, and mrs. keppler's cool and stuff, but jesus christ do I fucking suck when it comes to history. I need to do better in this classsss sob.
I can't wait until it's the weekend so I can actually sleep as much as I should be sleeping. I've been going to sleep at midnight working on this stuff, and oh my god will going to sleep at ten and waking up around eleven on saturday feel so wonderful.
I realize that I didn't mention how I actually did get the things that I had been pining for a little while ago: the newest professor layton game is so badass and has the most amazing plot in the world. I was completely thrown for a loop at the end, it was that absolutely unexpected. and, of course, many of the puzzles made me feel like a dumbass, as per usual. and t-the tsukigumi elisabeth soundtrack ♥♥ I have no words to describe how much I fucking love it. I've been listening to it nonstop; it's so ridiculous. it really makes me lament about the fact that asako's retiring in december. but, when you've gotta go, you've gotta go, I guess. she will be missed!
also: oh my god glee last night was soooo gooooooooood. mercedes and kurt have such an adorable friendship (and maaan can mercedes belt it! I loved loved loved her song) and I really want to see more of them in the future (especially kurt, haha). and before I forget: phoenix wright anoynmous kink meme. part seventeen? it's like it's never going to end. this is madness.
okay, I've gotta finish my homework. wish me luck?
so I would've posted sooner but I've been preoccupied.
went to see shear madness with a few of my friends - you know who you are - and my mother and sister on saturday; we had a freaking blast. the guy playing Tony - Patrick Shea (an original cast member from when the show first started, woah) - talked to us during intermission and he found out that we were there for my birthday and was so sweet about it. he wished me a happy birthday (then and after the show) and told me that he hoped the murder didn't ruin it, haha. oh, but the play exceeded my expectations by a freaking long shot, you don't even know. it was filled with such snark and pop culture references and rudeness/embarrassment to the audience members and it was awesome, especially since we were in the front row, so close that I could put my foot on the stage if I wanted to (and if I could).
got a bunch of presents and stuff. it was nice.
in other news, I have to finish my AP american work because I am (insert real name here; yeah, nice try internets): ace procrastinator. I've really got to stop this before school starts.
I want the Elisabeth CD like burning, because a little footage was posted from the DVD (which is waaaay too much money for my tastes, so I'll stick to the singing and my imagination on that one, thankyouverymuch) on youtube and oh my god is Sena Jun wonderful as Death. she's got such a nice, charming voice when she's singing and acting (and sounds so adorable when she's just talking, to the crowd, press, or otherwise). the only confusing thing is that there were three freaking Rudolfs in the whole run and I'd seen clips with two different ones and didn't realize until halfway through, because Asako acted exactly the same both times. then I thought 'waaaait that's not what he sounded like before...what the hell's going on here?' and then it clicked. oops. but I've been singing those songs all morning and I can't stop! I want that CD soooo bad.
alongside that, speaking of the revue, I think that I should feel bad for making fun of Leona and Takarazuka's methods of ~~romance~~ (a la cop-out kisses, dancing, singing, and just being way too lovey-dovey) in a fill for the kink meme, but I really don't. (...okay, maybe a little bit.)
adding to the list of things I waaaant like a greedy little teenager, I must recruit Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box! it came out today and I didn't realize it until just now. oh, it's been too long since I enjoyed a good puzzle or two-hundred.
I hope everyone's summer has been great. too bad it's almost over...
ahhhhhhhh
I feel so much better now that I've handed that monstrosity of an essay-notes bundle in today. even though I didn't get any sleep last night and got really, inwardly mad at my fucking retarded piece of shit printer that-
but yeah.
so much better.
for everyone that isn't a rabid ace attorney fan such as myself and hasn't see it already, go take a look at the website - it just got updated a few days ago and is now in full ace attorney investigations swing! it looks really nice, too. :)
so, more ap stuff (ew gross kill me), but other than that, I'm slowly getting into Takarazuka more: I found the 2005 performance (Tsukigumi) of Elisabeth (the story of Elisabeth of Bavaria, her childhood, marraige to Francis (Franz) Joseph I of Austria, family (tragedies), and eventual death, her assasin, Luigi Lucheni, the narrator of the story, saying that he killed her because she wanted to die to act on a love affair with Death himself) online and even thought that I can't understand what they're saying - yet again, only this time it's a lot worse because I knew nothing about this musical at all - oh my God so good. It also allowed me to learn about a historical figure or two, which was nice. of course, I had to look on wiki about the actual information (I know that the Mayerling incident didn't happen via dance sequence and Death giving Rudolf (Elisabeth's son) a gun to shoot himself with before giving the poor boy a kiss of death - not a real one, of course, putting the Revue's anti-homosexuality policy into account - afterwards to seal the deal, although the concept was very nice to watch on-stage; not to mention the fact that Death wanted Elisabeth like something fierce throughout the musical), but nonetheless!
beautiful music, actresses, sets and costumes make for a beautiful production (as if anything else could be expected from the Revue) and for a very pleased watcher. now if only I had something other than song translations! if only I could find a script.
might be getting an update on my ipod for my birthday, which is nice. I'd give for something other than my third generation nano. maybe a touch? (probably, even though I keep insisting that my mother doesn't have to buy me anything else, considering my friends and I are going to see a show in Boston for my party.) I'll probably ask for the Elisabeth soundtrack that I found on play-asia, too, for a gift from someone else; a good fifty-or-so dollars, but oh-so worth it. then the yomigaeru shinjitsu dvd? I could ask for that and the second performance's dvd (because it's being performed this month, so the dvd for it would be out by december) for christmas, though...decisions, decisions. I just don't know what the hell else to ask for! that's the problem with birthdays.
oh, well.
