firstly, something I found off ONTD re: Matthew Morisson and the Madonna Glee episode - His personal repertoire of Madonna tunes is admittedly limited, but Morrison said he’d like to give “Like A Virgin” a try. “If Emma and I were ever to get together, maybe [we could perform it] the first time we consummated the relationship,” he said.

FFFFF

I-I HAVE NO WORDS

also, hey, Adam Lambert, whassup? oh, you've gotta go sing at the AMAs, and, in the process, feel both men and women up, have one guy on a leash, shove some guy's face in your crotch and make out with one of your bandmates now? cool, see you tomorrow. OH WAIT (and, to his 'double standard stuff: I get it that women are more likely to do stuff like this, bby, really, I am. but the fact that you actually did it on network television in the first place is the issue here. try to understand that.) the lyrics to his song choice - for your entertainment - was also very ironic in light of his performance, too.

in my real-life news, saw star trek (the movie, except for like, half of shore leave and the pon farr episode from the original series, pfft) and it was glorious. kirk was so freaking funny, especially with bones; spock was crazy intellectual awesome (a-and being played by zachary quinto actually made him really hot); and chekov was adsfjdshg;la the most adorable russian I have ever seen. nimoy as spock prime was also really badass. in effect, I am also now shipping the (technically) oldest existing/first slash pairing in the US, whoo. (speaking of pairings, spontaneous spock/uhura in the movie wat.)

tried out for districts this past weekend; didn't get in. but I was so close, which makes me giddy nonetheless, considering my room's cutoff was at 110 and I got a 104. (if only I were in the next room, where the cutoff was in the 90's!) didn't get my score sheet so I could see how I did, though, which pisses me off. where the hell'd it go, districts

there's probably more I could say but I don't care.

glee tomorrow, whoo

11/12/09 06:30 pm - I should be doing AP US, but -

EDGEWORTH GAME DEMO YESSSS

something I wanted to mention; in discussing the Steel Samurai figurine in Edgeworth's office -

Edgeworth: Well, I don't know much about it myself, but...the hero of "The Steel Samurai: Neo Olde Tokyo" is the Steel Samurai...and his goal is to defeat the Evil Magistrate. It's a show geared towards kids...however its high production values and riveting plot draws in a number of adults as well.

Gumshoe: You...sure know a lot. Are you sure you're not some sort of rabid fanboy?

Edgeworth: (recoil!) ...! O-Of course not! Anyone that keeps up with society knows at least this much!

ffffff

new respect for Gumshoe? I think so. (he actually does sound a bit more (key words: a bit) intelligent in AAI, too. wisening up for Edgeworth, is he?)

also, Organizer as opposed to Court Record? Organizer? Really.

edit: and more!

Edgeworth: (Did I say "contradiction"? He must be rubbing off on me. I'm starting to sound like him...)

meaning Phoenix? aw he's thinking of him so cute.

I really like the new aspects to the game - the Logic system, and the sort-of cross-examinations (the Arguments, I think they were called). but the demo ends at the worst point ever - like they all do, but still! D: Maggeyyyyy.

11/11/09 02:20 pm - my tags are like matt engarde - look at those split personalities

writing this paper - arguing that tobacco companies aren't responsible for consumer illness, the consumers themselves are - makes me feel like Miles Edgeworth.

... :D

(also, as to offplay the ace attorney-related happiness, have some depression: ASAKO'S LAST DAY IN TAKARAZUKA WAS ON THE NINTH, SOBBBBB)

11/1/09 04:08 pm

I really should be doing my ap comp homework but

I'm rping Larry on japanifornia and having the fucking time of my life.

...god, I forgot how fun (and potentially hilarious) this was ♥

10/13/09 06:47 pm - p-please excuse this ridiculous takarazuka-related melodrama

asdfharogtarnhgt

is japan trying to kill me (and ruin my family financially).

the first thing I see when I go onto the TCA SHOP website is a small heading entitled SENA JUN SPECIAL, so I hover over it to see Asako's (Sena Jun's) gorgeous face there and I click on it (I-I feel like I'm developing such an unhealthy obsession becoming a true Takarazuka fan with all of this fangirling) and am thus bombarded with a moderate discography of things she's done thus far (to which I recall that Last Play / Heat on Beat! started a few days ago at the grand theater and OH GOD ASAKO'S RETIRING IN TWO MONTHS NOOOO SOB) and see a sleu of 2009 things (for her retirement, as they do with all Top Stars, I've found) one of which is for her dinner show, Zero. Interested, I click on that and preview a snippet of it provided by the site before looking at the list of songs she'd sung (M-Minnie the Moocher whaaaaat). I totally wanted to hear her sing in English (to hear what she sounds like, because I had heard Osa - Haruno Sumire - sing in English earlier on during her OG days - 2008, in her first post-Takarazuka concert, I think - and ohhh boy was it funny) so I go on iTunes Japan to see if I can find anything.

AND I COME FACE TO FACE WITH THE LIVE CD FOR 逆転裁判2

MY HEART SOARS

of course, I do not have ¥on hand (or on the internets, or even on an Japanese iTunes card, something that I will probably ask for in large quantities this Christmas), so I can't listen to the full songs, but snippets are good enough, so I go for the previews and find Mii-chan's ~ (Gumshoe's) investigation song ~ and let out a few laughs because it is still so hilarious and I really want to see it being performed. I go through and find Tomochin's (Edgeworth's) song (about the truth or something?) and I have to say, she's a really good replacement for Eriko (who played Edgeworth in the first musical). and of course Tomu is still stunning as Phoenix, but for Soragumi's nibante, that's to be expected! can't wait until she's the star of the troupe (but, since Top Star-dom basically outlines retirement, then I guess I can wait, haha).

but, uh. my Asako search ended up coming to no avail with a lack of English songs on the miniscule selection of songs that iTunes had for her dinner show. still didn't stop me from looking up stuff from her past performances in Ernest in Love, Me and My Girl (and her two other performances in Elisabeth besides her recent depiction of Death), etc, though. I did peek around the TCA site to find a few clips from her 2009 Elisabeth, and ffff her "shineba ii!" face after Elisabeth is lamenting over Franz-Joseph's cheating on her with a whore is absolutely hilarious. eyes all wide, throwing her hat off to the side, face contorted...oh, Asako ♥

tl;dr: I am obsessed with the Takarazuka Revue.

in other news related to my actual life, school's going better; I'm finally doing alright in AP US, thank the lord. actually getting B's! rejoice. trying out for Districts was a horrid task, as I got so nervous that I breathed when I was supposed to be singing, oh god whyyyyy. does anyone have any advice on calming yourself down during a tryout or something? because if I'm like that in front of my teacher, just inagine what I'm going to be like in front of judges that I don't know at all. D:

other than that, things are pretty awesome. :)

10/7/09 08:36 pm

anyone know (where I can find anything concerning) the alto part to Già il sole dal Gange (or the soprano part but down the octave, if Mr. Castillo was right about that) so I at least have a semblance of the song before I sing it on Friday in front of my chorus teacher and the head of the music department to find out if I've got the chops to try out for the ~ Massachusetts Central District Music Festival ~ ?

...yeah I didn't think so.

10/4/09 08:35 pm

I just had the longest conversation with ben walton since seventh grade (even though it was on facebook but shush).

and that kinda makes me happy.

WHAT

(i-is this even real, wikipedia? I don't think so, but oh how I wish it were.)

Phoenix is an upcoming Australian law-related TV series, adapted from Japanese video game developers Capcom's popular game series, Phoenix Wright.

The first series of the show follows three main characters, one of which made no appearance in the games whatsoever, and a variety of recurring, supporting, guest and minor roles throughout. The three main characters are:

The titular character, Phoenix Wright. A rookie defence lawyer and the understudy to successful defence lawyer Mia Fey, Phoenix is a very nervous character, despite his abilities in the courtroom. He is 24 years old, and fresh out of law school. He investigates his cases not unlike a detective would, to build a confident case in court. He is known to blurt out ridiculously sounding explanations for questions posed to him in court, and then justify them surprisingly well. He is often pressured by prosecutors to hurry up proceedings, for his tendencies to slow things down when he is stuck.

Mia Fey, Phoenix's mentor, and a very successful defence lawyer to boot. She is five years older than Phoenix is, but that has not stopped the show's producers and writers toying with the idea of a romance between them. Her character is expanded dramatically from the person in the games; she is portrayed as neurotic, clean, resourceful and a perfectionist in the series. She files all of her cases in alphabetical order in her shelves carefully, and often scolds Phoenix for touching them. Like all the women in her family, Mia is gifted with spirit mediumship, though rarely uses her talents, believing they distract her from her true passion: defence law.

Stoney Lee joins the cast after six episodes of the first season, as Phoenix's partner. For his first few cases, Mia joins him in the courtroom, but as he progresses, she stops this, so Phoenix hires Stoney as his support, and extra brains. Stoney is a 26 year old teacher who has been suspended from her job on suspicion of stealing money from the school, under the guise of "excursion and camp payments". She mistakenly took her job as Phoenix's partner as temporary, as she believes she will return to teaching in a few months, but Phoenix hired her as a permanent partner. They often trade barbs, and sometimes can be a very dysfunctional team, but Stoney's intelligence oftentimes helps Phoenix in getting his verdict.

The show's supporting cast consists of four recurring characters:

Detective Ryan Potter is based upon the character of Dick Gumshoe in the games. His personality is one of extremes; he can be either very protective of information, or willing to blurt it out to anyone who asks nicely. Despite the fact he often appears as a prosecutor's witness, he has a good relationship with Phoenix, and often gives him autopsy reports and inside information, sometimes inadvertently.

Miles Edgeworth is a ruthless prosecutor, who meets Phoenix in the courtroom various times throughout the season. He has a reputation for forged evidence and edited testimonies, but nothing has ever been proved. He dislikes Phoenix and Mia, though acknowledges the latter's skills as a defence lawyer. It is revealed in the ninth episode of the season that Phoenix and Edgeworth spent a year in the same class in primary school, before Edgeworth was transferred.

Larry Butz is Phoenix's best friend. His character is expanded from the games, and appears in the majority of episodes, albeit in mostly small roles. He appears as the defendant in the pilot and a witness, though a clueless one, in episode fourteen. He has a way with nearly anyone he meets, and has a habit of dating beautiful models. When Phoenix requires information from Detective Potter, he sometimes utilises Larry to charm Potter into giving Phoenix the information.

Judge Ronald Hill appears as the judge in most episodes. The explanation of his frequent appearance in nearly all of Phoenix's trials is that he is one of only three remaining judges in the court. It has also been implied that he has some distant relation to Stoney, but she denies it heavily. He is very pliable, and sometimes witnesses in strife use this to their advantage. He is often pressured by prosecutors, namely Edgeworth, to pass verdicts quickly and to believe their side of the story instead of Phoenix's. The judge has also admitted to disliking Mia, though she has no knowledge of it.

Phoenix follows the titular character as he progresses through the world of defence law. Nearly all episodes consist mainly of Phoenix defending a client, though all episodes include some small insight into his personal life. Sometimes cases are split into two episodes to allow for complications. Phoenix receives seventeen cases in season one, fifteen of which he successfully defends his client.

9/27/09 02:59 pm - what's the phrase? like a fool, kinda sick, special needs...anyways.))

so I'm perusing the ace attorney investigations website and find that the character descriptions are, lo and behold, poorly translated/put together/what-have-you. alongside that, they are very hilarious! for example (and these are verbatim, sadly enough):

Miles Edgeworth - "...but after several confrontations against his best friend, Phoenix Wright, turns into a Romanist to pursue TRUTH."

Dick Gumshoe - "He feels admiration for Miles far greater than what others would feel in a prosecutor / detective relationship." (to which I mentally respond: ...I am so excited for this game.)

and pretty much Kay Faraday's entire bio. "Regards herself as the 'Great Thief'. Loves parties and climbing up on a high spot. Her target is a treasure called 'truth'. Flattering a black scurf, she appears at a crime scene with Miles. How is the relationship of the great thief and Miles going to evolve?"

f-forgive me for asking what the hell a 'scurf' is, CAPCOM.

I mean, christ. THESE ARE TINY, THREE-PARAGRAPH, THREE-SENTENCE BIOGRAPHIES, GUYS. DON'T PLUG THEM INTO AN ONLINE TRANSLATOR AND JUST PLOP THEM ONTO THE WEBSITE.

/meaningless frustration

anyway, among other things, because of the Emmys, I found myself searcing around for a few tv shows and whatnot. the thing that really intrigued me, though - and something that I regret not finding sooner - was the gem called dr. horrible's sing-along blog. snfaodsighda;lk so good. I mean, the little interruption during the Emmys was a wonderfully amusing surprise on its own, but the actual thing is just glorious. e-especially Neil Patrick Harris, ahhh ♥

but, uh, yeah. not much else going on. school's going okay. AP US is still a struggle, but I'm just glad I'm not completely and totally failing, to be honest. (I'm just on the road to failure, that's all.)

that's pretty much it.

9/17/09 05:29 pm

oh. my. god.

During the show, Kurt will sing "Defying Gravity" from Wicked.

WHEN IS THIS HAPPENING

HOLY SHIT THAT'S GONNA BE SO AMAZING

(maybe when Kristen Chenoweth shows up in the show? because damn it, I want to hear kurt sing this song so muchhh ♥)

ap us history is going to kill me on the inside. I really need to pass that test tomorrow.

in other news, every class besides that is starting off pretty well.

ap comp is really interesting (as much as I complained about that essay we have to do - that's due tomorrow - it's actually really fun to write once I got what I had in my notebook down in Word) and mr. cunningham makes it better by being pretty much the best english teacher I've ever had up to this year. which is amazing.

pre-calc is...exactly as it sounds. pre-calculus. it's not fun, but mrs. small's actually kinda cool and does a good job at explaining what we're going over/learning, so it's alright.

sat review is way too easy. we're doing basic math/algebra and learning vocab words (half of which I've already heard and used). I wonder if the actual test is really this alright, or if they're just laying it on easy. or if it'll get harder as the semester goes on. (I doubt it.)

a capella choir is just ♥♥♥ (times infinity). you have no idea how much I love being in this choir. no idea. and shit are our songs so good. the new teacher - aughh why can't I remember his name; I know it started with a 'c' - is actually really awesome and one hell of a singer. he carries singing into his sentences after he's teaching us some notes or telling us what to do, and it's so funny. he's awkward, but nice.

ap us. just...see above. I like learning in the class, and mrs. keppler's cool and stuff, but jesus christ do I fucking suck when it comes to history. I need to do better in this classsss sob.

I can't wait until it's the weekend so I can actually sleep as much as I should be sleeping. I've been going to sleep at midnight working on this stuff, and oh my god will going to sleep at ten and waking up around eleven on saturday feel so wonderful.

I realize that I didn't mention how I actually did get the things that I had been pining for a little while ago: the newest professor layton game is so badass and has the most amazing plot in the world. I was completely thrown for a loop at the end, it was that absolutely unexpected. and, of course, many of the puzzles made me feel like a dumbass, as per usual. and t-the tsukigumi elisabeth soundtrack ♥♥ I have no words to describe how much I fucking love it. I've been listening to it nonstop; it's so ridiculous. it really makes me lament about the fact that asako's retiring in december. but, when you've gotta go, you've gotta go, I guess. she will be missed!

also: oh my god glee last night was soooo gooooooooood. mercedes and kurt have such an adorable friendship (and maaan can mercedes belt it! I loved loved loved her song) and I really want to see more of them in the future (especially kurt, haha). and before I forget: phoenix wright anoynmous kink meme. part seventeen? it's like it's never going to end. this is madness.

okay, I've gotta finish my homework. wish me luck?

8/24/09 10:58 am

so I would've posted sooner but I've been preoccupied.

went to see shear madness with a few of my friends - you know who you are - and my mother and sister on saturday; we had a freaking blast. the guy playing Tony - Patrick Shea (an original cast member from when the show first started, woah) - talked to us during intermission and he found out that we were there for my birthday and was so sweet about it. he wished me a happy birthday (then and after the show) and told me that he hoped the murder didn't ruin it, haha. oh, but the play exceeded my expectations by a freaking long shot, you don't even know. it was filled with such snark and pop culture references and rudeness/embarrassment to the audience members and it was awesome, especially since we were in the front row, so close that I could put my foot on the stage if I wanted to (and if I could).

got a bunch of presents and stuff. it was nice.

in other news, I have to finish my AP american work because I am (insert real name here; yeah, nice try internets): ace procrastinator. I've really got to stop this before school starts.

I want the Elisabeth CD like burning, because a little footage was posted from the DVD (which is waaaay too much money for my tastes, so I'll stick to the singing and my imagination on that one, thankyouverymuch) on youtube and oh my god is Sena Jun wonderful as Death. she's got such a nice, charming voice when she's singing and acting (and sounds so adorable when she's just talking, to the crowd, press, or otherwise). the only confusing thing is that there were three freaking Rudolfs in the whole run and I'd seen clips with two different ones and didn't realize until halfway through, because Asako acted exactly the same both times. then I thought 'waaaait that's not what he sounded like before...what the hell's going on here?' and then it clicked. oops. but I've been singing those songs all morning and I can't stop! I want that CD soooo bad.

alongside that, speaking of the revue, I think that I should feel bad for making fun of Leona and Takarazuka's methods of ~~romance~~ (a la cop-out kisses, dancing, singing, and just being way too lovey-dovey) in a fill for the kink meme, but I really don't. (...okay, maybe a little bit.)

adding to the list of things I waaaant like a greedy little teenager, I must recruit Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box! it came out today and I didn't realize it until just now. oh, it's been too long since I enjoyed a good puzzle or two-hundred.

I hope everyone's summer has been great. too bad it's almost over...

I-I want to be in japan right

now

the rehearsal video for the second phoenix wright musical was released and put on youtube and I want to see this so bad it's killing meeeeee! tomu's still as lovely as always and the actresses playing maya and gumshoe (who I think actually sings a song in this one! :D) and all of those recurring characters are awesome and the new edgeworth (she sounds so gorgeous!) and franziska (ffff she's actually got a whip, you guys) are wonderful too and ahhhhh

(also, I want to know what the whole plot is to this musical, because at one point, maya was shouting for phoenix's help through a phone, and edgeworth was introducing himself to a courtroom; the first thing that came to my mind was 2-4, and while that would be cool, it seems kind of unlikely. ughhh I can't wait until someone goes to see this and then gives their review/recaps the musical on gyakuten_saiban! >:)

also, for anyone who frequents court-records.net, some kind user posted new ace attorney: investigations screens, full of franziska and her gorgeous, remade self (there's also a video, if you feel like you wanna click on the link).

8/17/09 11:53 am

ahhhhhhhh

I feel so much better now that I've handed that monstrosity of an essay-notes bundle in today. even though I didn't get any sleep last night and got really, inwardly mad at my fucking retarded piece of shit printer that-

but yeah.

so much better.

8/8/09 02:19 pm

the fact that writing the ap comp essay is smooth sailing right now is hilariously depressing.

why the hell were the notes the only things giving me my real problems? and I still have walden left to finish reading (and writing on)...

/sob

8/1/09 08:03 pm

for everyone that isn't a rabid ace attorney fan such as myself and hasn't see it already, go take a look at the website - it just got updated a few days ago and is now in full ace attorney investigations swing! it looks really nice, too. :)

so, more ap stuff (ew gross kill me), but other than that, I'm slowly getting into Takarazuka more: I found the 2005 performance (Tsukigumi) of Elisabeth (the story of Elisabeth of Bavaria, her childhood, marraige to Francis (Franz) Joseph I of Austria, family (tragedies), and eventual death, her assasin, Luigi Lucheni, the narrator of the story, saying that he killed her because she wanted to die to act on a love affair with Death himself) online and even thought that I can't understand what they're saying - yet again, only this time it's a lot worse because I knew nothing about this musical at all - oh my God so good. It also allowed me to learn about a historical figure or two, which was nice. of course, I had to look on wiki about the actual information (I know that the Mayerling incident didn't happen via dance sequence and Death giving Rudolf (Elisabeth's son) a gun to shoot himself with before giving the poor boy a kiss of death - not a real one, of course, putting the Revue's anti-homosexuality policy into account -  afterwards to seal the deal, although the concept was very nice to watch on-stage; not to mention the fact that Death wanted Elisabeth like something fierce throughout the musical), but nonetheless!

beautiful music, actresses, sets and costumes make for a beautiful production (as if anything else could be expected from the Revue) and for a very pleased watcher. now if only I had something other than song translations! if only I could find a script.

might be getting an update on my ipod for my birthday, which is nice. I'd give for something other than my third generation nano. maybe a touch? (probably, even though I keep insisting that my mother doesn't have to buy me anything else, considering my friends and I are going to see a show in Boston for my party.) I'll probably ask for the Elisabeth soundtrack that I found on play-asia, too, for a gift from someone else; a good fifty-or-so dollars, but oh-so worth it. then the yomigaeru shinjitsu dvd? I could ask for that and the second performance's dvd (because it's being performed this month, so the dvd for it would be out by december) for christmas, though...decisions, decisions. I just don't know what the hell else to ask for! that's the problem with birthdays.

oh, well.

7/25/09 12:34 pm

holy shit

have any of you guys heard of the voca people?

if you haven't then click on that link right now because they are crazy good and every positive adjective in the english language ever created.

nooo

looks like our release date for glorious ace attorney investigations: miles edgeworth is officially february sixteenth of next year, thanks to the capcom booth at san diego comic-con. that makes me sad and happy at the same time. if that makes sense.

anyway, nothing much else is going on. ap assignments and ughh. I got the watchmen dvd, though! and maaaan was watching the whole thing so nice. the movie actually made me feel bad for dr. manhattan, though; I mean, the comic book made him seem really heartless, but he shows such emotion in his own ways that you just can't hate the guy. same with adrian, but that's just because matthew goode is crazy gorgeous. (also: ozy's boys folder, lol)

getting my hair cut tomorrow, much to my mother's disdain (and will be to ha's, once she finds out). then ap assignments. then I watch my missed episode of the young and the restless. because I love that crazy soap opera and its ridiculousness.

next week, on vacation in ocean city. will probably be enjoyable.

did I mention ap assignments?
